A large file is created on the selectedstoragedevice which will fill remaining space on the device. Thisapp doesNOT delete any existing files. Any storage device that isvisibleto Android's Storage Access Framework can be shredded. Youcanchoose between different shredding modes: - Zeros - overwritesfreespace with zeros (fastest) - Random - overwrites free spacewithrandom data - Secure Random - overwrites free spacewithcryptographically secure random data (slowest) File Shreddercanalso shred individual files and directories. Thisinvolvesoverwriting the files with data from the chosen mode,overwritingthe file's name with a random name (longer than theoriginal name),and finally deleting the file normally. FileShredder has beentested with a handful of file recovery appsavailable for Android(including root ones that directly read fromblock storage devices)and all were unable to recover any deletedfiles after using thisapp. NOTE: flash memory used in phones haslimited durability - itis recommended that File Shredder is notused as a habit, butrather only when it's needed. Additionally,flash memory usuallycomes with 'wear levelling' features, whichmeans that writing tothe same 'file' twice does not necessarilymean that the samephysical location on the flash memory will bewritten to. Thismeans it is possible (but rather unlikely) thatvery sophisticatedrecovery methods that look at wear levellingblocks of the device'sflash memory could pick up fragments ofdeleted files. Running FileShredder multiple times may reduce thischance (although it isquite low to begin with).
